Perfect World to Launch Unlimited Closed Beta Testing for “Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber” on August 18

Perfect World Co., Ltd. (NASDAQ: PWRD) recently announced it will launch unlimited closed beta testing for Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber, the company’s 2D martial arts MMORPG, on August 18, 2011.

Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber is Perfect World’s first 2D martial arts MMORPG. Adapted from Louis Cha’s acclaimed novel of the same name and based on Perfect World’s “AX” technology, the game will present gamers with an exciting and sophisticated world of martial arts.

Valve confirms to release DOTA 2 this year

Valve will finally lift the lid on DOTA 2 during a tournament at Gamescom later this month, with the game due on shelves “later this year”. Sources have confirmed that some Chinese e-sports teams had received DOTA 2 clients to test the game.

Insiders believe there are 5 million DOTA players in China and most of them are young gamers. Several DOTA type games have emerged in recent years, like LOL, Three Countries for Commandeer and Dream of Three Ancient Kingdoms, which are quite popular.

DOTA 2’s operation authority in China has sparked severe competing from Tencent, Shangda Games, NetEase, Untx and Qihoo 360.

Softstar’s Scar of the Sky OL to fail again in China

3D MMORPG Scar of the Sky OL, which was developed by Softstar Inc and operated by Shanghai Ferry Game, will cease operations soon. The game, like XianJian QiXia Zhuan OL (also known as The Legend of Sword and Fairy), has been online for less than half a year; both games are Softstar’s products and both have failed in the China market.

Though Softstar keeps failing in the online games industry, its PC game XianJian QiXia Zhuan 5 is a big success in China and has already sold 800,000 copies. Softstar has changed its agent to Baiyou in China this year.

NetDragon & EA announced Dungeon Keeper OL to be opened in Q4

Chinese game developer NetDragon Websoft and U.S. digital game maker Electronic Arts (EA) recently announced that their Dungeon Keeper OL will start a third close beta test on August 17 and will be opened for test in 2011Q4.

Dungeon Keeper OL is a 3D MMORPG developed by NetDragon and EA. The game is based on Bullfrogs Studio’s Dungeon Keeper TM, including themes, characters and other game content.

NetDragon had won exclusive rights to license and operate Dungeon Keeper Online in 2008. After three years’ developing, Dungeon Keeper OL is almost finished and has made a breakthrough in game mode, game world and game culture.

Dungeon Keeper OL is a double mode online game with simple operation requirements. Players can easily learn how to play the game without learning complex guiding.

Perfect World’s Dragon Excalibur entered South Korea with a new name Master OL

Perfect World 2D Real-time online game Dragon Excalibur entered South Korea with a new name Master OL yesterday. The game will be operated by Weaver and its official site will be online in August; while the game’s closed beta test is set in Q3, 2011.

Weaver’s CEO said they had signed the contract because they value Perfect World’s experience in developing wonderful games. They would add some local features to the game and hope it could be a big success.

Perfect World & SEGA will offer Saint Seiya Online in China mainland and Taiwan

SEGA and Perfect World announced yesterday that the latter has the permission from Sega and Shueisha Inc. and will operate 3D MMORPG Saint Seiya Online (Chinese version) in mainland and Taiwan; Cartoonist Masami Kurumada will act as the game’s executive producer.

Perfect World’s CEO Yufeng Chi said:“ Saint Seiya is one of the best memories of Chinese ‘post 80s’ players; we feel much honored to work with Sega and Shueisha Inc. and make this influential cartoon into an online game.”

Neoact to announce China’s operator for Dota type Chaos Online on Chinajoy

Korean game company Neoact will join the 2011 Chinajoy with its Dota type Chaos online and announce China’s operator for the game. As Neoact’s third DotA online game after HON and LOL in China, Chaos OL adapts Warcraft3’s classic maps. Chaos OL has a large user base in South Korea. Now the game has more than 3 million players and hundreds of professional teams. Every year there are over 8 large e-sports competitions related to Chaos OL.

Shanda Games’ Winger Group will hold a press conference in Shanghai on July 26. Holdfast will announce some big news on the conference and it is believed it may have something to do with Chaos OL.

Final Fantasy XIV Chinese version scene pictures unveiled

Shanda Games today unveiled a set of new pictures of its upcoming 3D martial MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV Chinese version. The game is expected to be released on Shanda’s Allstar Game Conference on July 28 and will also be shown on the Chinajoy 2011.

It is widely known that FF XIV has met some problems in Japan because of incomplete game content. The poor performance of FF XIV in Japan has dragged down Square Enix’s stock price. Square Enix has even changed its producers and modified the game content. The difference between FF XIV’s Janpanse version and Chinese version is still unknown, but we believe Shanda Games has ability to modify the game and make it popular in China.

Shanda Games will launch Legend of Immortals on KaiXin

Shanda Games’ Legend of Immortals will be officially launched on SNS website KaiXin. The game’s style is still unknown but its entering SNS site is a good start. It is very important for a highly developed client game to enlarge its user base.
